Plot

Amidst the political maelstrom of Southern Rhodesia's defiant declaration of independence in 1965, the tides of hope, despair, and uncertainty clash, stirring a storm only the bravest can weather. The epicenter of this turbulence is none other than Joseph Mahoney, the final colonial commissioner of the tumultuous Kariba Gorge. His destiny, intertwined with the birth of a new nation, takes an unexpected turn as the Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) becomes a stark reality. As the last bastion of colonial rule, Mahoney is tasked with administering justice in a land fracturing under the weight of colonial resentment, tribal disputes, and an escalating rural rebellion. Aided by Suzie de Villiers, an Afrikaner naturalist, and Sampson, his Ndebele manservant, Mahoney battles against not only the adversities of a changing political landscape but also the indifference of his fellow colonists. Sampson, a man of unwavering loyalty, finds his allegiance tested. He is caught in the crossfire between his devotion to ZAPU nationalists and his deep-rooted friendship with Joseph. After a reluctant and guilt-ridden attack on Suzie's farm, orchestrated by ZIPRA, Sampson is apprehended and charged with attempted murder. As the sand slips through the hourglass, Mahoney faces a desperate race against time. His mission: to secure a pardon for Sampson, mend fences with a disillusioned Suzie, and prevent his chosen homeland from descending into another cycle of bloody vengeance and retribution. Blind Justice (1988) is a riveting exploration of the human spirit against the backdrop of political tumult and the struggle for survival.
