Plot

In the sweltering summer of '99, a Colombian family finds themselves at the crossroads of dreams and reality. Brothers Carly (Mateo Arias), an avid metalhead with ambitions as vast as the cosmos, and Mateo (Moises Arias), the more cynical and aimless of the two, are thrust into the throbbing heart of the American Dream, as they prepare to spend their final years of high school in the United States. Their parents (Diane Guerrero and Wilmer Valderrama), desperate to escape the political maelstrom swallowing their native Colombia, see this as a golden opportunity. Carly, a science prodigy with a heart pulsing to the rhythm of heavy metal, has his sights set on the prestigious Georgia Aerospace Institute, dreaming of a future within NASA's hallowed halls. However, as the glossy veneer of their new life starts to peel, the family finds themselves grappling with a reality that's far from the rosy image they'd envisioned. Mateo's initial skepticism begins to make a chilling sense as their expectations are gradually eroded, replaced by a stark understanding of the struggle to adapt. The American Dream, once an enchanting siren's song, starts to ring hollow, threatening to capsize their hopes for a better future. Amidst this turmoil, Carly's dream of reaching the stars morphs from an aspiration into a lifeline. His unwavering goal to work for NASA becomes the family's beacon in their storm of disillusionment, a testament to the relentless human spirit in the face of shattered expectations.
