Plot

In the ghostly month of July, according to the lunar calendar, the film Black Night (2006) unfolds across three chilling tales from Hong Kong, Japan, and Thailand. In Hong Kong's "Next Door," Jane, a Taiwanese girl, returns to her policeman lover Joe, only to find him ensnared in a passionate affair with the enigmatic Hosie, a girl from China. Amidst the spectral shadows of the ghost festival, a tale of betrayal unravels on a fateful night, painting an eerie tableau of love gone awry. The narrative then shifts to Japan with "Dark Hole," where Yuki, a bride-to-be, is haunted by a boy from her nightmares, who eerily appears in reality. Clad in yellow, he disappears as soon as she acknowledges him, leaving only a puddle of water as evidence of his existence. Encouraged by her fiancé Satoshi to seek psychiatric help, Yuki descends into a hypnotic trance, revealing a petrifying secret of an unknown creature from her past, opening doors to a realm of fear and anxiety. Finally, in Thailand's "The Lost Memory," we encounter Prang, a single mother burdened by the presence of a mysterious man who haunts her life. Suspecting him to be a pawn of her ex-husband Wit, Prang lives in perpetual paranoia, protecting her son from the perceived threat. As her memories ebb and flow like a treacherous tide, unsettling incidents from her tumultuous past resurface, turning her life into a living nightmare. Black Night (2006) is a chilling triptych of love, fear, and paranoia, as it navigates through the eerie corridors of the human mind, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats.
