Believe in Me (1971)

In the heart of New York's vibrant East Village, Remy, a promising medical intern famed for his compassionate bedside manner, crosses paths with Pamela, a vivacious employee at a children's book publishing house. United by their shared connection with Pamela's brother, a close confidant of Remy, the duo quickly falls into an intoxicating whirlwind of love. As they nestle into their shared apartment, the urban allure of the city takes a dark turn, ensnaring them in a tempestuous dance with speed and barbiturates. Their descent into addiction pulls the rug from under their once promising futures. Remy is expelled from his medical school, while Pamela surrenders her flourishing career at the publishing house. As their lives spiral out of control, they grapple with the harsh reality of their choices. Remy finds himself entangled in a precarious debt with Stutter, a local dealer with a venomous grudge. In a twisted act of revenge for an unsettled bill, Stutter lures Remy into the lethal grip of heroin. Pamela, on the brink of despair, glimpses a ray of hope in the form of her brother's clinic, offering her a chance at sobriety. The path to redemption, however, entails leaving behind Remy, now a destitute shadow of his former self. Straddling the line between love and self-preservation, Pamela must make a choice that could change their lives forever.
