Rebels fight for control of an unnamed West African country, and children are swept up in the battle. Young Agu's village is destroyed and his family is scattered, leaving him no choice but to join the Commandant's forces. Though still a child, Agu quickly sheds his innocence as the violence and cruelty of war force him towards manhood. Can Agu's actions ever be justified?
