Plot
The Amistad is a ship carrying African slaves to the United States. When the slaves organize a revolt, the ship is commandeered with plans to return it to Africa. The effort fails and the ship winds up off the coast of Long Island. A court battle ensues over the status of the captives, and the case will eventually reach the Supreme Court of the United States.
