All Hat (2007)

In the rustic charm of southwestern Ontario, Ray Dokes, a charming ex-baseball player with a checkered past, finds himself stepping back into a world he once knew, freshly released from jail and hastily returning to his hometown. His temporary sanctuary is the home of his late father's Texan confidante, Pete Culpepper, a humble horse breeder struggling against the tide of debt and the encroachment of urban development. Ray's past transgressions, however, cast a long shadow. His two-year sentence was for an assault on Sonny Stanton, the brash, unlikable heir to the area's wealthiest horse breeding empire, leaving him reliant on a cane to walk. Despite his violent, defiant nature and mounting gambling debts, Sonny is hell-bent on buying up local farms to make way for an ambitious casino and golfing resort, a plan that has put him in direct conflict with Ray's ex-flame, the stubborn and resilient Etta Parr. Determined to keep his nose clean, Ray finds solace in a fiery relationship with Chrissie Nugent, Pete's spirited new jockey. However, he can't ignore the escalating tension in his community. The situation explodes when Sonny's cousins steal Jumpin Jack Flash, the Stanton Stable's $10 million thoroughbred, and Sonny views the horse's life as his ticket out of debt. In the face of this turmoil, Ray hatches an audacious plan to halt Sonny's rampant expansion and right the wrongs inflicted on his community.
