Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)

Bill and Ted are dumb but well-meaning dudes from California. They play in a rock band called the Wyld Stallyns. Unfortunately, the two are at risk of failing school. If that happens, Ted will be shipped off to Alaska. Rescue arrives when Rufus, a time-traveler, arrives in their backyard. He lives in a utopian future and promises that Bill and Ted's music will be critical to saving humanity someday. Rufus provides them with his time machine so they can research history as it really happened and maybe even pass school.
