Plot

In the heart of New Britain, Connecticut, two rival toy stores – Forrester Toys and DiNova Toys – stand a block apart, each headed by an ambitious, second-generation owner: the widowed Connie Forrester, mother to teenage TJ, and divorced Will DiNova. Each store is a legacy, inherited from Connie's father and Will's uncle, erstwhile business partners who fell out, splitting the toy empire in two. Despite outward cordiality, Connie and Will harbor hidden resentment towards each other, their strained relationship further pressured by their respective financial struggles. Connie faces a looming balloon payment on her store's property mortgage, while Will seeks to reclaim his family home lost in the divorce. Their hopes rest on the bustling Christmas season, but their dreams are threatened by the news of a Roy's Toys megastore, owned by ruthless businessman Roy Barnes, opening in their town. In a desperate bid to protect their livelihoods, Connie invokes a little-known city ordinance, placing an injunction on the new store's opening. The decisive hearing, set on Christmas Eve, has their friend, Mayor Ben Stevens, hinting in their favor. Urged by the daunting competition, Will proposes a temporary alliance with Connie to legally obstruct the megastore's opening or at least divert all toy business their way. In the midst of this intense rivalry, there's a poignant undertone of personal stories. Connie's mother, Pam, a piano teacher, welcomes a new student, Joe Haggarty, a fresh face in town with a mysterious desire to play piano at his niece's wedding. Connie's less-observant brother Randy may be unaware of the waitress Francine's heightened interest in him, despite her extreme efforts to catch his attention. As Connie and Will band together to face the ruthless Roy, they might discover a desire to extend their alliance beyond business. Yet, they must be wary of Roy's divisive tactics, which could shatter their newfound camaraderie. 'A Very Merry Toy Store' is a touching tale of rivalry, alliance, family, and the power of unity against adversity.
