29 Palms (2002)

In the arid expanse of the Mojave Desert, the fate of the Devil's Playground Casino hangs in the balance. The Native American-owned establishment is on the brink of expansion, but a crooked Judge, swayed by illicit payoffs from the Las Vegas lobby, threatens to quash the endeavor. He concocts a deceitful story, informing the tribal Chief that an undercover FBI agent—known only as the Drifter—is worming through the Judge's staff, putting the expansion on hold. When the Drifter’s lover is brutally murdered in the Chief's desperate scramble to neutralize the supposed threat, the narrative takes a chilling turn. The Chief enlists a cold-blooded Hitman to eliminate the Drifter, assigning his payment in a black duffel bag adorned with the casino's unique logo and a red pine car air freshener. Unbeknownst to him, the bag of money morphs into a magnet of intrigue, drawing a motley crew of characters into a spiraling web of greed, revenge, and justice. The Drifter, now a fugitive, finds himself in a deadly tug-of-war for the money-filled bag. His adversaries are a rogue’s gallery of desperate souls: a voyeuristic casino Security Guard more interested in the ladies' restroom than his duties, a masochistic Cop from a neighboring town, a down-on-her-luck Diner Waitress, and an unassuming Bus Depot Ticket Clerk with a hidden agenda. Amidst the chaos, a resolute local Sheriff is on the trail, investigating the mysterious disappearance of the money. With the relentless Hitman, the tribal Chief, and the corrupt Judge hot on his heels, the Drifter must navigate this treacherous landscape to survive. As the desert sun scorches the earth, allegiances blur, motives twist, and a thrilling chase for survival ensues in the heart of 29 Palms. Will the Drifter escape this lethal desert storm, or will he become another forgotten casualty in the sand-swept expanses of the Mojave? In a world where trust is as elusive as a desert mirage, nothing is certain.
