Plot

In the shadowed corners of London, 1949, an inconspicuous man named John Christie resides in the ground-floor flat of 10 Rillington Place. Beneath the veil of his mediocre existence and his wife Ethel's oblivious eyes, Christie harbors a chilling secret—he is a serial killer. Armed with a fraudulent medical persona, he lures unsuspecting women into a deadly trap, promising to cure their ailments. In reality, he uses carbon monoxide gas to render them unconscious before fulfilling his perverse desires and then strangling them to death. His victims' bodies are concealed within the confines of his home or its ominous surroundings. The unsuspecting Beryl Evans, a young woman burdened by financial struggles and an imminent second pregnancy which she can't afford, becomes Christie's next target. Beryl, her illiterate husband, Tim, and their infant daughter Geraldine have recently moved into the top flat of the sinister Rillington Place. The couple's constant financial stress and marital strife echo through the building, drawing Christie's attention. He offers to perform an illegal abortion, free of charge, thus setting his new plan in motion. However, this time, Tim will know his wife is dead. Christie aims to manipulate Tim into silence or frame him for the murder. Will this deviation from his usual method impact Christie's gruesome streak? Will he succeed in killing Beryl undetected? Simultaneously, the film sheds light on the controversial case of Timothy Evans, widely recognized as a grievous miscarriage of justice. This real-life tragedy, along with the cases of Derek Bentley and Ruth Ellis, played a critical role in the abolishment of capital punishment in the United Kingdom in 1965. Thus, "10 Rillington Place" is not only a chilling exploration of a killer's mind but also an important historical document.
