Too Close for Comfort (1980)

In the heart of San Francisco resides the Rush family, living within the charmingly intricate confines of a Victorian duplex. At the helm, we have Henry Rush, a brilliant yet conservative cartoonist, and his vivacious wife, Muriel, a photographer and former band singer. The other half of this duplex is home to their two young daughters - Jackie, an ambitious bank teller with a flair for fashion design, and Sara, a bright-eyed college student. Their lives take an unexpected turn when their eccentric downstairs neighbor, Rafkin, a transvestite with a flair for the dramatic, suddenly passes away. Seizing the moment, the girls venture out of their parental cocoon to inhabit Rafkin's vacant apartment. This newfound independence, however, is not without its challenges. They find themselves under the constant scrutiny of their overprotective father, Henry, whose traditional values often clash with their youthful spirit. Adding to the family's colorful dynamic is Sara's endearingly awkward friend, Monroe, who often finds himself in the eye of the storm. Muriel's mother, Iris, also plays a pivotal role as Henry's long-standing nemesis, further fueling the familial chaos. Despite the close-knit setting, both sides often find their living arrangement to be "too close for comfort". In this hilariously heartwarming half-hour sitcom, witness the Rush family as they navigate the trials of love, ambition, and the complexities of living under one roof - two generations striving to understand and coexist with one another, all the while keeping the humor alive in their wonderfully chaotic world.
