Plot
Plunge into the scandal-ridden world of politics with The New Statesman, a tale centred around Alan B'Stard, an unscrupulous Conservative MP with an insatiable thirst for power and wealth. Devoid of any moral compass, Alan embarks on a whirlwind of illicit activities, ranging from drug trafficking and adult films to fraudulent charities and even murder. He's a master manipulator, believing his political status renders him invincible to any form of retribution.
In the chessboard of political manoeuvre, Alan's unwitting pawn is Piers Fletcher-Dervish, a fellow MP whose lack of intellect leaves him susceptible to Alan's machinations. Sarah B'Stard, Alan's wife, mirrors his moral bankruptcy, engaging in daily affairs and nursing a deep-seated loathing for her husband, a sentiment she's harboured since their wedding day.
Each episode is a snapshot of the era, integrating contemporary events such as the end of the Cold War, the Nazi hunt of the late '80s, and the rise of the Animal Freedom Party. Alan adeptly navigates these shifting tides, using every opportunity to expand his coffers.
In a climactic twist, the fourth season sees Alan shifting his ambitions to the European Union, a move that promises even greater wealth and power. With no line he wouldn't cross, join Alan B'Stard in his relentless pursuit of political supremacy and witness the lengths one man will go to for unchecked ambition.
