Plot

In the grim shadow of the 1980s, Poland teeters precariously between the oppressive martial law and the hopeful promise of the Round Table. Amidst this turbulent backdrop, a forgotten city in Poland's southwestern reaches becomes the stage for a chilling double homicide. A young prostitute and a local communist activist meet their untimely ends, shrouding the town in a cloak of fear and suspicion. Simultaneously, the city is shaken by a wave of adolescent suicide, casting an even darker shadow over its already bleak landscape. Witold Wanycz (Andrzej Seweryn), a seasoned journalist carrying a tinge of bitterness, is tasked with covering the grisly murder for the local newspaper. His world, however, takes an unexpected turn with the arrival of a young editor in the same office, Piotr Zarzycki (Dawid Ogrodnik). Piotr, the son of a high-ranking party activist, is an unassuming newcomer with an insatiable curiosity. Propelled by a burning desire for truth, Piotr embarks on his own journalistic quest, diving headfirst into the murky depths of the murder investigation. But as Piotr delves deeper into the case, he finds himself sinking further into the metaphorical mire - a quagmire of secrets and deceit from which escape seems almost impossible. It's a chilling journey into the heart of darkness, where every step could lead to a point of no return.
