In the summer of 1943, a diverse band of soldiers hailing from the Dust Bowl plains of Oklahoma sets foot on the war-torn beaches of Sicily. This unit, known as the Thunderbirds, comprises Native Americans, Mexican Americans, and rugged cowboys, men who, back home, were kept apart by the invisible barriers of societal norms.
