Plot

Dipped in the rich ink of Korea's oldest collection of unofficial historical tales, The Legend of the Blue Sea paints an enchanting love story spanning centuries. This tale begins with Kim Dam Ryung (Lee Min Ho), a noble scion of the Joseon era, and Se Hwa (Jun Ji Hyun), a captive mermaid revealed to him by the devious Lord Yang (Sung Dong Il). Amid the hushed whispers of an inn in August 1598, Dam Ryung sets the mesmerizing creature free, their hands clasping in a brief, poignant moment before she vanishes into the ocean's depths. Fast forward to the dazzling whirl of the present day, where the smooth-talking Heo Joon Jae operates his cons with a magician's flair. Alongside his partners in crime, Jo Nam Doo and Tae Oh, Joon Jae masterfully swindles a substantial fortune while impersonating a prosecutor, leading him to escape to a sun-drenched oceanside resort in Spain. Here, the tides of fate wash ashore Shim Chung, a mermaid caught in a powerful tidal wave. As destiny would have it, she encounters the charming conman Joon Jae at the resort, setting the stage for a meeting of two worlds where love, mystery, and an ancient legend intertwine.
