In the chilling winter break, bright-eyed student Kate Harper finds her way back home, reuniting with her beloved Tom and his brother Brian, along with their vivacious circle of friends - Rachel, Leah, Ashley, and Ethan. Their evening unwinds at the pub, split between two cars on a rain-drenched night. An attempt to outmaneuver a lorry spirals into tragedy as Tom, followed by Ethan, instigates a catastrophic crash. Amidst the wreckage, Tom and Leah emerge, but fate isn't as kind to everyone.
Six months prior, we see a different picture - Kate is supporting Rachel through a heartbreak while Ashley, the caregiver to his ill father, aids Tom in his quest for the perfect engagement ring for Kate. Brian, an aspiring footballer, dreams of being discovered. A party thrown by Kate's parents sets the stage for Leah and Brian's budding romance, while Rachel rekindles her relationship with Ethan at the prom, and Kate blissfully accepts Tom's proposal.
Fast-forward to the aftermath of the crash, Rachel lies comatose, and the lives of Kate, Ashley, and Brian are tragically cut short. A veil of grief descends on Kate's parents, momentarily lifted by the floral tributes from friends and their cherished memories of their daughter. As Rachel emerges from her coma, guilt-ridden Tom isolates himself, skipping the funerals and earning Leah's scornful label of a coward.
Nine months later, Tom and Ethan stand in court, facing accusations of causing death by dangerous driving, but are ultimately acquitted. Tom's mother, unable to forgive, along with the others, shun him. Rachel, still healing and on crutches, is the one who brings him back into the fold. As the anniversary of the crash arrives, a sea of mourners gather, a poignant tribute to remember those who were lost in the blink of an eye.
