Plot

In the murky underworld of low-budget cinema, Vic Morgenstein (previously Vic Morgan) has carved his niche by peddling a peculiar blend of Asian horror schlock and soft-core titillation. His notorious video series, "Drunk Chicks" 1 to 6, a parade of tipsy women baring their chests, has garnered him a comfortable lifestyle and a dubious honour; young men everywhere identify him from his DVD covers, raising their shirts in a bizarre salute. Vic was content with his unorthodox fame, his fortune serving as a cushion for the lack of respectability it brought along. Until, that is, he stumbled upon a small-time, artistic film, The Unreasonable Truth About Butterflies, at a less than prestigious film festival. Directed by the enigmatic Rufus Marquez, Butterflies fluttered its way to unexpected glory on the indie festival circuit, making Vic yearn for the sweet taste of respectability. A new dream was born: to produce and distribute "respectable" indie films. However, Vic lacks the essential ingredients of taste and vision. In his pursuit of respectability, he ropes in Julia Sullivan, a seasoned IFC segment producer, to aid in his ambitious quest. Together, they navigate the chaotic world of indie filmmaking, intent on producing their maiden indie-thriller, House of Fear. An array of obstacles, including sultry porn stars, shallow PR executives, narcissistic B-movie stars, eccentric Japanese investors, the imposing American Beef lobby, and a volatile director, constantly throw a wrench in their plans. Will Vic and Julia manage to craft the film of their dreams without sacrificing their integrity? Chances look slim, but rest assured, their journey will leave you in fits of laughter.
