Plot
Once living a life of opulence in a sprawling mansion in the lush Jardins district of São Paulo, Caco Antibes (Miguel Falabella) and his wife Magda (Marisa Orth) find their lavish world shattered when they fall into the merciless grip of bankruptcy. Caught in the crosshairs of the IRS, they are stripped of their wealth and cast out from their luxurious abode. Their journey takes a pitiful turn as they are forced to retreat to the modest apartment of Magda's bachelor uncle, Vanderlei Mathias, affectionately known as Vavá (Luis Gustavo).
Vavá, a somewhat erratic proprietor of a tourist agency, perpetually teeters between success and ruin. His solitary life is rudely disrupted by the arrival of his desperate relatives, a family he deems a motley crew of irresponsible lunatics. Alongside Caco and Magda, we also meet Magda's sharp-tongued mother, Cassandra (Aracy Balabanian), adding another layer of chaos to the already tumultuous household.
Now under Vavá's reluctant stewardship, the once-wealthy couple grapples with their new reality. Caco, ever the schemer, continuously concocts harebrained schemes for swift financial turnaround, his efforts often thwarted by Magda's naive blunders and ceaseless squabbles with her mother. Thus, Sai de Baixo paints a hilariously chaotic portrait of a high-society family grappling with their fall from grace, their antics perfectly encapsulating the absurdity of their predicament.
