Restless (2012)

In the year 1976, Ruth Gilmartin (Michelle Dockery) embarks on a visit to her mother Sally (Charlotte Rampling) in the tranquil countryside of Cambridgeshire, only to discover a truth that leaves her astonished. Sally, originally a Russian refugee known as Eva Delectorskaya, was roped into the world of British espionage back in 1939. Her life, once shrouded in secrets, unfolds in front of Ruth. Hayley Atwell brings to life the young and daring Eva, who, after a close brush with death in the Netherlands, is dispatched to the United States. Here, she is tasked with the seduction of the married Mason Harding (Bertie Carvel), a close advisor to the President. Her mission: to uncover America's plans concerning their involvement in the war, a task she executes with aplomb. A second clandestine assignment sees her providing a map to American agents, a map that allegedly details a planned German invasion. However, sharp-eyed Eva detects inaccuracies within the map, alerting her spy master and secret lover, Lucas Romer (Rufus Sewell), amongst others. Despite the President being duped by the erroneous map, Eva narrowly escapes an assassination attempt. As her spy comrades fall one by one, Eva becomes convinced of a betrayal. Fast forward to the 1970s, the echoes of past treachery still haunt Eva. Recognizing the lingering threat to her life, she startles Ruth with the purchase of a shotgun for their protection. A plan is hatched involving Ruth contacting Romer under the guise of an inquisitive journalist exploring wartime espionage. This ruse enables "Sally" to follow and uncover Romer's current dwelling. A tense, long-awaited confrontation unravels, culminating in the unveiling of the traitor's identity, exposing a betrayal that lay hidden for over three decades.
