Plot

In the bustling landscape of New York business, Peter Christopher, a bright yet unmarried junior executive, finds his career growth stunted by an unusual corporate bias. His boss, Mr. Brahms, a baby food tycoon, firmly believes that his company should be represented by stable, married men. Consequently, Peter's promotion hangs in the balance as he grapples with his boss's matrimonial mandate. In a twist of fate, Peter confides in Greta, a witty hat check girl at a local bar and his friend. Her remark about pretending to be married for her protection in the bar sparks an ingenious idea in Peter's mind. He proposes a unconventional solution to his predicament: Greta should become his 'occasional wife', a faux spouse for company functions. Greta, captivated by the proposition, agrees to this peculiar arrangement. Peter promptly sets her up in an apartment two floors above his, placing her on a salary that blurs the line between domesticity and employment. As they navigate company functions, personal lives, and the constant threat of unexpected visits from Peter's colleagues, they morph into a married couple that exists only occasionally. Their performance necessitates an elaborate dance of deception, filled with frenzied trips up and down the fire escape. Their orchestrated antics leave their bemused 8th-floor neighbor in constant confusion, adding a layer of innocent comedy to their complex living arrangement. Together, Peter and Greta embark on a journey that challenges societal norms, tests their friendship, and creates a captivating narrative filled with humor and unexpected complications.
