My Fellow Citizens (2019)

With a long history of successful deceptions, Yang Jung Kook is a seasoned conman who's always managed to elude the grasp of the law. His world takes a sharp turn when his beloved absconds with their matrimonial funds, leaving him heartbroken. Seeking solace in liquor, he stumbles upon Kim Mi Young, a woman nursing her own wounds from her boyfriend's infidelity. Both find comfort in sharing their stories; Yang presents himself as a businessman while Kim claims to be an employee of a small company. Unbeknownst to Yang, Kim is actually a detective and their relationship blossoms into a romance, which leads to their unexpected wedding. However, the truth is unveiled on their wedding day when Kim confesses her real job. Meanwhile, lurking in the shadows is the enigmatic Park Hoo Ja, a private loan shark who inherited the business from her father, a victim of Yang's swindling. When she discovers Yang's identity, she concocts a plan of coercion, blackmailing him into a political race for a national assembly seat. This intricate web of deceit and blackmail sets the stage for a gripping tale of crime, romance, and unexpected politics.
