Plot

In the heart of Ottawa, a city known for its misunderstandings, exists a unique professional relationship, spanning fifteen years, between psychiatrist Dr. David Storper and his patient Michael. David, an expert in cognitive behavioral therapy, guides Michael through real-life exercises aimed at conquering his multitude of anxieties, fears as commonplace as cats, buses, and even girls. Michael, stuck in a perpetual state of adolescence at 30, views David as his lifeline to normalcy, while David sees Michael as an opportunity - a ticket to a profitable book deal. David's life is a delicate balance, teetering between his workaholic nature, a secret drinking habit that potentially led to his marriage's demise, and his own efforts to amend these flaws. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Michael, he's been made the central character - 'Miguel' - in David's self-help book, penned with the aid of the flamboyant editor Sammy Dunbar for the stern publisher Jasmina Hart. Despite their stark differences, David and Sammy find themselves in a whirlwind of mutual attraction, sparking passion in the most unlikely places. Simultaneously, Michael finds himself drawn to Claire, David's well-meaning but slightly misguided receptionist and single mom. She holds a unique insight into his life, having transcribed every word of David's notes about him. This budding romance throws David into a state of unease, a tension that pales in comparison when he finally reveals the truth about the book to Michael. The question then arises - can their complex patient-doctor relationship withstand such a profound betrayal?
