Plot

In the unforgiving expanse of the Australian outback, the vast cattle ranch Drover's Run stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the land. Once presided over by Jack McLeod, the ranch is now bequeathed to his two daughters, Claire and Tess, following his passing and a series of personal tragedies. Tess, a city girl product of Jack's fleeting but fiery relationship with Ruth Silverman, returns to Drover's Run after a twenty-year separation and the recent loss of her mother. Her initial intentions to sell her inheritance and return to city life are challenged by the ranch's dire financial situation and her older sister's resentment. Claire, who has been single-handedly battling to keep the ranch afloat, is a hardened outback woman molded by hardship and respect for the land. The sudden reappearance of her younger sister is the catalyst for a radical decision - to dismiss their male workforce and take control of the ranch themselves. Alongside the stalwart housekeeper Meg Fountain, her spirited daughter Jodi, and local girl Becky, the sisters embark on a journey to salvage their inheritance. Their tentative partnership marks their first steps towards mending old wounds and strengthening their bond as sisters. The seasons that follow paint a vivid picture of their evolving relationship, the trials they face on the ranch, and their interactions with the charming Ryan brothers and other colorful characters of the district. As Tess' connection to the land deepens, she reconsiders her city dreams, and new allies, like Claire's old friend Stevie Hall and Jodi's schoolmate Kate, join their cause. McLeod's Daughters is a compelling saga of resilience and kinship, set against the backdrop of a landscape as harsh as it is beautiful. With every challenge, every victory, the women of Drover's Run prove that the rewards of their labor are as boundless as the wild open land they've inherited. As they navigate the trials of life, love, and the land, they learn that the legacy they uphold is not just about the land they work but is also about the love they share as a family, redefined by circumstance and choice.
