In the captivating drama, "Death of a Loved One" (2013), Puck Ekstedt, a dedicated literature doctoral student, receives an invitation from her mentor Rutger to join him and his wife for a Midsummer celebration at their secluded summer retreat. The prospect of the presence of Einar Bure, an intriguing young historian, sweetens the offer, and Puck readily agrees. Upon arrival at the island, Puck is greeted by a collection of vibrant young souls, their lives intricately entwined since their youthful academic years. As the Midsummer festivities unfold, Puck discerns an unsettling matrix of tensions, a potent cocktail of unresolved passions and distressing rivalries. The surprise arrival of Rutger's former fiancée, Marianne Wallman and her companion Viveka Stensson, stokes the simmering resentments. The next morning, Puck discovers Marianne's lifeless body in the woods, transforming the festive retreat into a chilling crime scene. With no alternative, Puck and Einar navigate the lake to fetch Einar's acquaintance, Christer Wijk, the head of the national homicide investigation team. However, the boat's motor fails upon Christer's arrival, stranding them on the island without a phone or another boat. The murderer, now evidently hiding among the Midsummer revelers, remains at large. Although Christer's suspicions initially fall on Georg Malm, Marianne's ex-lover, the mystery deepens when Georg too meets a grim fate the following day.
