Plot

In the heart of the Canadian prairies, nestled within the quaint town of Mercy, Saskatchewan, is a vibrant tapestry of multiculturalism, woven around a small yet fervent Muslim community. At the helm of this community is Yasir Hamoudi, a local building contractor and a pillar of strength. Alongside him is his wife Sarah, an erstwhile Christian who embraced Islam for her beloved husband. Their dynamic feminist daughter, Rayyan, breaks stereotypes as a Muslim doctor. Their spiritual guide is Amaar Rashid, a Canadian-born former lawyer who traded the bustling streets of Toronto for Mercy's tranquil expanses. He steps in to replace Baber Siddiqui, the previous Imam, whose extreme ideologies didn't sit well with many in the community. Adding flavor to this cultural mix is Fatima Dinssa, a Nigerian Muslim diner owner whose religious piety coexists beautifully with her liberal cultural values. The Muslim community of Mercy navigates through cohabitation with their Christian neighbors, with the journey sometimes being a harmonious symphony, other times a discordant tune. Reverend Duncan Magee, the town's spiritual leader, extends a warm welcome to his Muslim counterparts, cherishing their contribution to the community's social and economic fabric. Mayor Ann Popowicz too, appreciates the Muslim demographic, especially if they sway the vote in her favor. However, the tranquil town of Mercy is not devoid of suspicion. Local radio host, Fred Tupper, is often dubious about the Muslims, perceiving them through the distorted lens of terrorism. And Amaar, with his big city ideologies, often finds himself under the skeptical gaze of both the Muslim and Christian townsfolk alike. Amid all this, the town of Mercy unfolds as a microcosm of the world, where diverse cultures, religions, and ideologies seek to coexist in harmony.
