Jack Hunter, a valiant archaeologist, embarks on an unexpected adventure after a simple endeavor to photograph an ancient cuneiform tablet from the once unrivaled city of Ugarit, buried in modern-day Syria, spirals into a daring theft from a private French museum. Despite initial reluctance, the brutal murder of his close friend forces him into a thrilling relic hunt, a pursuit shrouded in mystery and supposedly guided by a coded treasure map - a hypothesis proposed by his seasoned mentor, Professor Frederic 'Freddie' Shaffer. Suspicions lead Jack to the bustling city of Damascus, pointing towards the shifty Syrian artifact dealer, Ali. Here, he finds himself reluctantly teamed with the spirited, US-educated Nadia and her witty driver, Tariq.
