Plot

Set against the vibrant backdrop of London in 1985, 'In the Long Run' paints a picture of life in the city's pulsating tower blocks, where shell suits are the fashion of the day. The story revolves around Walter and Agnes Easmon, a hard-working couple who migrated from Sierra Leone 13 years ago. They lead a simple yet fulfilling life, earning just enough to meet their needs, with a surplus to send back to their native land. Walter, with his loyal friend and neighbour, "Bagpipes", toils day in and out at a nearby factory. Simultaneously, Agnes, a beacon of resilience, navigates the estate selling cosmetics to her neighbours. Their British-born son, Kobna, and his loyal sidekick Dean, spend their days immersed in football and deftly avoiding local troublemakers. However, their serene routine takes an exciting turn with the unexpected arrival of Walter's flamboyant brother, Valentine. His zest for life infuses their world with laughter, music, and a delightful dose of chaos. Valentine, aspiring to establish himself in the UK, not only finds work but also love. His uncontainable passion for music rubs off on young Kobna, creating a special bond between them. Though Valentine often ruffles Agnes and tests Walter's forbearance, Kobna cherishes his "funcle", recognising that beyond all, family is what holds them together. 'In the Long Run', crafted by Idris Elba and featuring a talented ensemble cast including Bill Bailey, is a heartwarming comedy. It explores the essence of family, community, and the true meaning of home.
