Plot

In the heart of Tasmania, that charming heart-shaped island tucked away at the bottom of Australia, renowned food critic Matthew Evans trades the bustling city life for the rustic allure of small farm living in "Gourmet Farmer." Having previously navigated Australia's most hectic and vibrant culinary scenes, Evans now embarks on an entirely different journey, one that brings him face-to-face with the source of his passion: food in its purest form. Driven by the steadfast belief that we should have a direct connection with the food we consume, either by growing or rearing it ourselves, or by procuring it from local producers, Evans sets out to put this principle into practice. He yearns to uncover the best local produce, to rear and cultivate as much of his own food as he can. Pigs, chooks, sheep, and a cow all feature in his idyllic vision of a self-sustaining farm. His dream is to see his farmhouse table laden with abundant platters of food, grown and prepared by his own hands, shared with old and new friends alike. However, this transition isn't without its challenges. Evans is a stranger to chopping wood, a novice in the art of growing fruits and vegetables, and knows little about animal husbandry. Yet, he is armed with an insatiable appetite and a determination to learn. After all, he knows how to savor a good meal. How hard can creating one from scratch be? "Gourmet Farmer" is a savory exploration of a food critic's leap of faith into the world of farming, a testament to the power of food in connecting us with the land, the community, and ultimately, ourselves. It's an intimate, delectable journey that explores the trials and triumphs of a life rooted in the soil and enriched by the shared bounty it yields.
