Plot

In the twilight of the Dark Ages, Gargoyles, a noble race of warrior beasts, trod the earth. Stone by day, flesh by night, they formed a tenuous pact with a Scottish clan - protection for the castle under the cloak of darkness, in return for safeguarding their stone forms in the light of day. However, this alliance crumbled under the weight of human prejudice, leading to a catastrophic betrayal. The castle was plundered, and the Gargoyle clan decimated, leaving only six adults and a cache of unhatched eggs. A tragic misunderstanding during their vengeful retaliation resulted in a potent curse that turned the Gargoyles to stone, to be broken only when the "castle rises above the clouds." Thus, for a millennium, the castle lay deserted, and the Gargoyles remained entrapped within their stone forms, condemned by this spell. In the year 1994, the castle found a new perch atop the skyscraping Eyrie building in Manhattan, thanks to the machinations of David Xanatos, a billionaire with an insatiable curiosity and a knack for the supernatural. This relocation above the clouds shattered the timeless curse, breathing life back into the Gargoyles. Now, in a world far removed from their time, the Gargoyles must adapt, forging alliances with unexpected friends like Detective Elisa Maza, who exposes Xanatos' plan to manipulate them for his self-serving motives. Complicating matters, they discover that Demona, a Gargoyle from their past, has survived, but has succumbed to insanity and now harbors a deadly grudge against humanity. Defying their manipulators, the Gargoyles abandon the castle, vowing to shield New York City as they once shielded their ancient castle.
