Fingersmith (2005)

In the grimy underbelly of Victorian England, Susan "Sue" Trinder, a savvy fingersmith - street lingo for a thief - ekes out her living amidst the squalor and the unwanted infants cared for by the hardened Mrs. Sucksby. Their monotonous existence is disrupted when a down-on-his-luck gambler, once swimming in wealth, presents an audacious scam with a tantalizing reward of 40,000 pounds. The plot thickens around Maud Lilly, a wealthy orphan ensconced in the enigmatic Lilly house under the watchful gaze of her uncle.
