Fanny Hill (2007)

Plunged into the world of eighteenth-century London by a tragic smallpox epidemic, young Fanny Hill, a Lancashire country lady with an irresistible charm, embarks upon a life that's as unpredictable as it is thrilling. Uprooted from her humble origins, she is warmly welcomed by Mrs. Brown, a madam with a keen eye for fresh faces, into the bustling life of London's 'working girls'. Thrust into a life of erotic education, indulgence in her first extravagant dress, and a dizzying whirl of parties, Fanny navigates the city's highs and lows. Her first encounter, with the unattractive and insatiable Mr. Crofts, leaves a bitter taste. However, it's not long before she's swept off her feet by the dashing Charles Standing, a merchant's son. He pledges his love and offers her a way out, yet a cruel twist of fate sees him leaving for India, choosing his future over their fledgling love. Left destitute, Fanny grapples with her circumstances and reluctantly becomes the kept woman of the affluent Mr. H., residing in a luxurious London home. Yet, when she refuses to surrender her heart, events take a scandalous turn, leading to her dismissal and a venture into Mrs. Cole's hat-shop, a front for an upscale brothel. Here, she plays her part well, adding a sense of tragedy as she breaks young Percy's heart. When she spurns Mr. H., he retaliates by shutting down the brothel, leaving Fanny penniless and alone. Yet, when she least expects it, her act of kindness towards a sickly old man opens another door, leading her from being a mere guest to becoming his sole heir. As the winds of fortune once again shift in her favor, an unexpected figure from her past resurfaces, setting the stage for yet another dramatic chapter in Fanny's tumultuous life.
