Plot

Door Into Darkness (1973) is a chilling anthology of four intriguing mysteries, each one dipping its toes into the murky depths of human nature. The series commences with 'The Neighbour,' where a charismatic young couple unknowingly settles into an apartment beneath a man harboring a dark secret - the blood of his wife on his hands. This eerie episode is the brainchild of Luigi Cozzi, a familiar name in the Argento universe. The suspense escalates in the second episode, 'The Tram.' Directed by the maestro Argento himself, this segment keeps you on the edge of your seat, unravelling a whodunit aboard a bustling tram, where every passenger is a potential suspect. The third episode, 'Eyewitness,' takes you on a bewildering journey with a seemingly innocent young woman who stumbles upon a murder. However, when she returns with the police, the crime scene is startlingly pristine, leaving no trace of the heinous act she witnessed. The final episode, 'The Doll,' offers a nightmarish scenario where a deranged mental patient prowls the streets of Rome, relentlessly hunting young women. Although Roberto Pariante is credited as the director, whispers of Argento's extensive reshoots add an additional layer of intrigue. The series concludes with a fascinating documentary that delves into the mind of Argento, produced during the late 80s to promote 'Opera.' It explores not only Argento's artistic process but also his crucial role in shaping this darkly captivating series. Luigi Cozzi also lends his directorial touch to some scenes, making Door Into Darkness an unforgettable exploration of suspense and horror.
