In the vibrant heart of Tokyo, a rustic farm boy named Hideki Motosuwa dares to chase his dream. Despite the bitter sting of rejection from his dream college, Hideki's spirit refuses to be quelled. He relocates to the city, choosing to dive headfirst into the bustling urban life, attending prep-school, and juggling a part-time job, all while adjusting to a world far removed from the tranquility of his rural origins.
In this city of illuminated wonders, Hideki stumbles upon the captivating phenomenon of 'Persocoms'—human-like computers that mimic the appearance and emotions of mankind, save for their missing ears. Enthralled by their realistic charm and cutting-edge technology, Hideki finds himself yearning for one, a desire that quickly deflates when he comes face-to-face with their exorbitant price tags.
Fate, however, has its own intriguing plans. On an ordinary evening, Hideki's life takes an extraordinary turn when he discovers a discarded Persocom in a dumpster. This maiden-shaped robot, swathed in bandages, and abandoned by the world, finds a new home with Hideki.
