Plot

In the deeply poignant and emotionally charged drama Butterfly, viewers are plunged into the complex world of separated parents Vicky and Stephen. The pair finds themselves at odds over how to navigate the turbulent waters of their youngest child Max's gender identity. From an early age, Max, a spirited eleven-year-old, has recognized a profound truth - he identifies as a girl. However, in a bid to gain his father's acceptance, he stifles these feelings, creating an undercurrent of distress that begins to ripple throughout their lives. When Max's internal turmoil intensifies, Stephen returns to the family home, determined to forge a masculine bond with his son and redeem himself in Vicky's eyes. However, their home becomes a battleground of differing ideologies, testing their love and understanding to its very limits. The heart of their conflict lies in Max's desire to socially transition to Maxine, a journey hindered by the stark divide in perspectives between his parents. Butterfly is a touching exploration of a family grappling with an extraordinary circumstance, offering an intimate look into the struggles and triumphs of supporting a child making a monumental life decision.
