Mark Unwin, an employee of the global oil giant Krielsen International, along with three of his colleagues, find themselves ensnared by the militant group MEND while on an assignment in Nigeria. In response, Claire Unwin, Mark's wife, and Alice Onuko, a Nigerian-born, British-raised PR specialist for Krielsen, brave a journey to the volatile Port Harcourt. With the expectation of a standard ransom exchange – MEND's usual method of self-funding - they are confronted instead with the chilling sight of their husbands' lifeless bodies. In the aftermath, Claire encounters a journalist, who rattles her further with the claim that the Nigerian government, not MEND, was responsible for the deaths of Mark and his comrades. But the journalist's voice is permanently silenced before long. Amidst this turmoil, Claire discovers Mark's secret affair with Angel, a local prostitute. Before Claire can confront her, Angel is mysteriously whisked away. Meanwhile, Alice grapples with her own revelations - her father's oil fortune is tainted with dishonesty. As the story unfolds, Keme, a local civil rights activist, ends up incarcerated. But Alice persuades Tunde, the reluctant police chief, to release him. Keme then escorts Claire and Alice deep into the jungle heartland, introducing them to Ebi, the MEND leader. Ebi unveils a shocking truth – Mark and his colleagues were turned into mercenaries against the government, a detail Claire keeps hidden when she finally returns to England. As the dust settles, Alice joins forces with Keme in his quest for equality in Nigeria, finding a new purpose amidst the chaos and corruption. Blood and Oil artfully intertwines personal discovery, political intrigue, and the harsh realities of the oil industry into a compelling narrative.
