Plot
In the spirited spinoff of "Soap", the ever-resourceful Benson DuBois trades in his butler's apron for a venture into the chaotic world of politics. Dispatched by his previous employer, Benson finds himself in the service of Gene Gatling, a well-meaning yet gaffe-prone governor. With a lovable, yet bewildering nature, Governor Gatling somehow found his way into office, and it's up to Benson to steer this unpredictable ship.
In the grand halls of the governor's mansion, Benson juggles managing the household and navigating a mire of eccentric characters. Among them are the persnickety Taylor, who bristles at Benson's astute interference, and the fiercely assertive housekeeper, Gretchen Kraus, who constantly challenges Benson's authority. Yet, amidst the chaos, Benson finds solace in the company of Marcy, the governor's efficient secretary, and becomes a figure of guidance to Katie, the governor's young daughter.
As the seasons evolve, so does Benson's role. Battling against the persistent annoyance of Clayton Endicott, the Governor's pedantic speechwriter, and Pete Downy, a staff member whose idiocy grates on Benson, our protagonist ascends the ranks. From becoming the Governor's budget director with the assistance of his own slightly scatterbrained secretary, Denise, to finally securing the title of Lieutenant Governor, Benson's journey is filled with humor, wit and a dash of the unexpected.
"Benson" is a delightful romp through the absurdities of politics, where the stakes are high and the laughter is non-stop. Brimming with spirited banter and heartfelt moments, the show beautifully captures the unlikely hero's rise, underlining the power of intelligence and determination in the face of comedic chaos.
