Plot

In a parallel universe where present-day Israel is bifurcated by a formidable wall, the gripping drama of Autonomies unfolds. The show, a testament to Israel's finest acting prowess, weaves a universally resonant narrative that tackles the heated topics of identity, faith, politics, and personal liberty. The realm is split into the secular "State of Israel," with Tel Aviv as its beating heart, and the "Haredi Autonomy," a stronghold of ultra-Orthodox religious sect in Jerusalem. Amid the palpable tension of this divided existence, resides Broide, a Haredi hustler who earns his keep by smuggling trifling contraband across the two territories. His humdrum life takes an unexpected turn when he is commissioned for a task that could shake his world: kidnapping a young girl embroiled in a contentious custody battle between a Haredi and a secular family, and spiriting her across the territorial divide. This daunting assignment, reminiscent of the biblical "Solomon's Trial," ignites a storm of dramatic events that threaten to shatter the country's fragile equilibrium. Simultaneously, an illicit romance blooms between Broide and Anna, a musician from the secular side of the divide. Their love story, laden with symbolic significance, offers a fleeting representation of unity in a nation driven apart. It's a love that blossoms in the privacy of Anna's room amidst the chaos of a nation on the brink of civil war. As the flames of conflict rise higher and the specter of war looms, a yearning for home emerges from the wreckage, a beacon of hope in a world torn apart by walls and tears. This is the riveting story of Autonomies, a dramatic powerhouse that mirrors the complexities of the human condition.
