Plot

In the sweltering heat of 1967's Los Angeles, Aquarius introduces us to Sam Hodiak, a seasoned homicide detective, portrayed by David Duchovny. The city teeters on the edge of chaos, only two years removed from the Watts Riots and embroiled in the tumultuous Vietnam War era. Amidst a whirlwind of street violence, counterculture protests, and the increasingly popular anti-establishment sentiment, Hodiak finds himself navigating a landscape littered with hippies, riots, and a deep-seated disdain for the law enforcement, colloquially referred to as "pigs". Into this volatile backdrop steps the enigmatic and charismatic Charles Manson, a real-life cult leader with grand and sinister ambitions. Freshly paroled from jail in March, Manson embarks on a reign of terror unparalleled in the annals of American crime, beginning to assemble his infamous "family". He recruits vulnerable young men and women, drawing them into his cause with an intoxicating blend of free love, anarchy, and illegal substances. As Manson's influence grows, Hodiak's investigations intertwine with the cult leader's activities, resulting in a chilling game of cat and mouse. The detective teams up with a young cop, a product of the very counterculture Hodiak grapples with, to infiltrate Manson's circle. Forced to view the world through the questioning eyes of the younger generation, Hodiak finds himself caught in a labyrinth of uncertainty. Aquarius, a visually stunning and edgy series, transports viewers to the dawn of a new age. It's an addictive exploration of the years preceding the Tate-LaBianca murders, one of the most notorious events in American crime history. The Summer of Love has never looked so dark, and the Age of Aquarius has never felt so alive.
