Plot
An NBC sitcom that ran from 1985 to 1990, 227 is based on the play of the same name by Christine Houston. The storyline follows the lives of black women who live in an apartment building in Chicago in the 1950s. Marla Gibbs stars as Mary Jenkins, a gossipy housewife with a sharp tongue. Other characters include Mary’s husband Lester, their teenage daughter Brenda, neighbor Pearl, and best friend Rose.
