Plot

In the heart of Cape Town, South Africa, Ali Neuman, a survivor of the savage political warfare of his childhood, now stands as the chief of the homicide branch of the police. A living testament to his nation's turbulent past, he bears the psychological scars of narrowly escaping a massacre by the militant political party, Inkatha, a rival to Nelson Mandela's African National Congress. His mother, the sole other survivor, instilled in him an inner strength that resonates in his duty to protect and serve. Working alongside him is Brian Epkeen, a maverick white officer whose family's history is entwined with the establishment of apartheid. Despite this, he forms an unlikely, yet effective, partnership with Neuman, navigating the labyrinth of sprawling slums teeming with crime. The echoes of their nation's past resonate in their present work, serving a society grappling with the aftermath of apartheid, and struggling towards reconciliation. Their world takes a sinister turn when the mutilated corpses of two young women surface, victims of a gruesome homicide. The murders appear to be fueled by a new, potent drug infiltrating the city streets, an evil that has seemingly provoked the disappearance of black street children. As they delve deeper into the investigation, they confront a city at the chaotic crossroads of brutality and modernization. Haunted by the shadows of the past, Ali and Brian find themselves in a city where the echoes of apartheid reverberate, and the threat of this new evil looms. In their pursuit of justice, they must traverse the thin line that separates the law from the lawless, unearthing the dark underbelly of the society they have sworn to protect.
