Plot

In the heart of a French boarding school, four rebellious students - Bruel, Caussat, Colin, and Tabard, wage a constant battle against the oppressive authority figures who rule their lives. The school, a world teetering between strict discipline and boundless youth, is brimming with rowdy boys, but these four ringleaders stand out for their relentless mischief and audacity. The school's tyrannical headmaster and his loyal minions, the house master and dormitory supervisor, are continually dishing out "zero for conduct" and Sunday detentions to our quartet, particularly focusing on their ceaseless pranks and rebellious behavior. The school's staff, viewed by the students as a blend of authoritarian, incompetent, and corrupt, offer no solace to them except for one - the newly arrived Huguet. This eccentric character, with his amusing Charles Chaplin imitations and spontaneous handstands even during class, soon becomes the boys' favourite. Driven by their youthful spirit and a desire to shatter the monotonous rules, the boys orchestrate a daring plan. Their mission: to seize control of the school's grand Commemoration Day celebrations. From ransacking their dormitory to hoisting their defiant symbol, the skull and crossbones flag, they transform their rebellion into a full-blown revolt, barricading themselves in the attic as they prepare a surprise for the unsuspecting guests and dignitaries. Amidst this chaos, the seemingly timid Tabard stands apart, regarded as an outcast by his peers. But when Bruel decides to involve him in their plot, an unexpected act from Tabard might just determine where his loyalties lie. Through their acts of defiance and camaraderie, Zero for Conduct paints a vibrant portrait of youthful rebellion against the rigidity of institutional authority, raising questions about conformity and individuality in a world bound by tradition.
