XXY (2007)

Nestled within the rustic charm of a small Uruguayan fishing village, the story of XXY unfolds. Here resides Kraken, a dedicated biologist, his wife Suli, and their spirited fifteen-year-old, Alex, whose life is as turbulent as the ocean waves that crash against their seaside home. An unexpected visit from Suli's former best friend, Erika, her surgeon husband, Ramiro, and their teenage son, Alvaro, from Argentina, subtly disturbs the tranquility of their lives. Underneath the surface of their reunion lies the true purpose of their visit - a clandestine operation planned by Ramiro for Alex. Born with both male and female sex organs, Alex stands at the crossroads of her gender identity, a secret as deep and complex as the sea Kraken explores. As the days unfold, a magnetism grows between Alex and Alvaro, eventually culminating in an intimate encounter. This event only intensifies the whirlpool of confusion for both teenagers, further complicating Alex's internal struggle. XXY spotlights this pivotal chapter in Alex's life, as she navigates the labyrinth of her gender identity, the quest for love, and the challenge of embracing her exceptional nature.
