Plot

In the gloomy onset of World War II, the renowned English humorist P.G. Wodehouse, the mastermind behind the beloved characters Jeeves and Wooster, is caught in the teeth of a storm. Living in France with his wife Ethel, they find themselves unable to escape the encroaching German forces when their car fails them at a crucial moment. Wodehouse is whisked away to an internment camp in Poland, where his lively wit and engaging anecdotes become a beacon of light for his fellow captives. In an unexpected twist, a German who had crossed paths with Wodehouse in America proposes an unusual idea. He suggests that Wodehouse broadcast his stories to the Americans, who are yet to be embroiled in the war. The objective is simple - to paint an image of the Third Reich that isn't as monstrous as it seems. Released under the pretext of his age, Wodehouse is sent to Berlin to make the broadcasts, which, unbeknownst to him, are tinged with political naivety. As Wodehouse grapples with his growing suspicion of being used as a pawn by the Nazis, Ethel journeys to Berlin, and together, they relocate to Paris. However, the end of the war doesn't bring respite. Wodehouse is dealt a harsh blow with the death of Ethel's daughter, Leonora, and the looming charge of treason over his head. His path crosses with Malcolm Muggeridge, a secret service officer whose sympathy leads to his release from custody. The trial for treason never comes to pass, but the aftermath is bitter. Renowned artists and political commentators pour scorn on Wodehouse, labeling him a traitor. Disheartened, Wodehouse and Ethel leave for America, bidding a final farewell to their homeland. This intimate tale chronicles the extraordinary circumstances under which this quintessential Englishman was charged with treason, resulting in his self-imposed exile, never setting foot on English soil again.
