Plot
In the movie Windows on Monday (2006), we are introduced to Frieder and his wife Nina, a couple grappling with the disintegration of their relationship while renovating their old house. Nina, a doctor, is expected to pick up their young daughter, Charlotte, but instead embarks on an unexpected journey. She heads to a secluded cabin, home to her brother Christoph, before cycling her way to an isolated sports hotel nestled in the thick of the woods.
During her time at the hotel, she engages in a fleeting exchange with a former tennis pro, retired and now showcasing his skills. Meanwhile, her husband Frieder, along with their daughter, trace her steps to the hotel, only for Nina to decide against returning home with them.
In the meantime, the renovation of their house takes a peculiar turn when Frieder, dissatisfied with the delivered replacements, refuses to install them after the old windows are taken down. This dissatisfaction extends to his personal life as he seeks solace in the arms of an old flame, Maria, who now teaches at Charlotte's nursery school.
The plot takes a twist when Nina returns unannounced to their now windowless home, setting the stage for a resolution or perhaps further complications. This drama is a poignant exploration of strained relationships, personal escapism, and the search for fulfillment.
