Plot

Emerging from a year's incarceration due to a narcotics charge, 23-year-old Rose-Lynn Harlan of working-class Glasgow, Scotland, grapples with the challenge of mending her tumultuous life. Rose-Lynn is a firecracker, a whirl of streetwise rebellion, free-spirited audacity, and a mouth that would make a sailor blush. Upon reuniting with her children, the older Wynonna and younger Lyle, it becomes evident that her lifestyle is a thorn in the side of their caretaker, her mother Marion. As a long-standing bakery worker, Marion contends with her inability to comprehend her daughter's aspirations of leaving their modest life behind and bursting onto the Nashville, Tennessee country music scene. Strapped for resources and with a scant educational background, Rose-Lynn struggles to reclaim her position as a singer at the local country bar, the Grand Ole Opry. Her previous employers, Jackie and Alan, remain skeptical due to her criminal past. However, Marion's reputable name secures Rose-Lynn a position as a cleaning lady for Susannah, an affluent woman juggling her role as a wife to James and a mother to young Rory and Nell. Rose-Lynn's potent combination of talent, charm, audacity, and a voice that can stir souls doesn't go unnoticed by Susannah. Stumbling upon Rose-Lynn's singing during her cleaning routine, Susannah takes on the role of benefactor, orchestrating a fund-raising party to propel Rose-Lynn toward her Nashville dream. But the path to stardom is fraught with hurdles. Rose-Lynn's children feel the sting of neglect, James grows wary of Susannah's fascination with Rose-Lynn, and Marion delivers an ultimatum forcing her to choose between her singing ambitions and the reality of motherhood. In the midst of this, Rose-Lynn's occasional lover Elliot, a devotee of alcohol, nightlife, and reckless partying, remains a perilous influence. Trapped in a crossroads of her own making, Rose-Lynn finds herself wrestling with her most formidable opponent: her own self-destructive tendencies. As she treads the tightrope between her dreams and her duties, will she tumble into chaos, or find a way to harmonize the discordant notes of her life?
