As a young journalist, Amy Peterson (Markle) finds herself disillusioned with her metropolitan life, a sentiment that seeps into her work and personal life, with her handsome yet incompatible businessman boyfriend, Phil (Munro). Once the vibrant spark of the Chicago Post, Amy's flame begins to flicker, leading her editor to send her back to her small-town roots to pen a unique Fourth of July story about her parents' (MacKechnie and Samuda) fascinating fireworks business. Upon returning, Amy's pursuit for a compelling story is temporarily extinguished by her best friend, Sammie (Pesic).
