In a world where love knows no bounds, the unassuming Elmer Butts harbors a clandestine adoration for the irresistible Hortense, a woman he's never met. Haunted by dreams of amassing a fortune to win her over with a luxurious Rolls Royce, Elmer finds himself caught in an intricate web of hope and ambition. As prohibition teeters on the brink of dissolution, Elmer's companion, Jimmy Potts, concocts a scheme to catapult them into riches - launching a brewery on the eve of alcohol's legal comeback. Their plan, however, falters in timing, drawing the unwanted attention of law enforcement. In a twist of fate, their brewing incompetence yields a beer devoid of alcohol, saving them from the clutches of the law. Yet this mistake births a beer economically produced, catching the eye of cunning bootlegger Spike Moran, who sees a golden opportunity to skyrocket his earnings by aligning with the unwitting duo. Unbeknownst to them, they've also caught the attention of rival bootlegger and notorious gangster, Butch Lorado. The stakes escalate further when they discover Butch's enchanting girlfriend is none other than Hortense, the woman of Elmer’s dreams. As the tale unfolds, love, ambition, and rivalry collide in this comedic farce set against the backdrop of prohibition's twilight.
