In a world where tradition clashes with changing times, Wanda's once familiar universe is thrown into chaos when her teenage daughter Nina emerges in a hijab. Nina, now preferring the name Fatima, has secretly embraced Islam, adhering strictly to halal dietary rules and prayer times. Wanda, a liberal matriarch at the helm of an unconventional Viennese family, is taken aback. A staunch opponent of religious extremism, she struggles to navigate this formidable wave of change. All her efforts to restore reason in Nina's world prove futile. Simultaneously, Wanda's life is further complicated when her ex-husband introduces a new child from his latest marriage into the mix, prompting a longing for simpler times when her biggest concerns were Nina's absenteeism and marijuana habits, rather than her religious fervor. A beacon of hope emerges in the form of Hanife, the mother of Nina's Muslim friend. Hanife, who journeyed to Austria as a child immigrant, is just as determined as Wanda to prevent her daughter from succumbing to the archaic image of womanhood that Nina zealously advocates. Together, they form an unexpected alliance in a world where old meets new and East melds with West.
