Plot

In the profoundly transformative year of 1962, an ambitious young photographer, David Bailey, finds himself on the cusp of a career-defining opportunity - a fifteen guinea contract with the renowned 'Vogue' magazine. His first assignment, an Acrylan advert, introduces him to the shy and inexperienced teenage model, Jean Shrimpton. Fleeing from her oppressive father, Jean moves in with Bailey, undeterred by his marital status. As 'Vogue' sets its sights on a youthful audience with its 'Young Ideas' feature, Bailey and Jean find themselves whisked away to the vibrant city of New York. Their company includes the magazine's discerning fashion editor, Lady Clare Rendlesham. Bailey's audacious, rule-defying approach to photography rankles Lady Clare, especially when he captures raw, unorthodox photos of his anxious muse, Jean, leading her to demand his expulsion from 'Vogue'. However, Bailey's work catches the eye of the astute Vogue editor, Ailsa Garland. Recognizing his pioneering vision, Garland defies Lady Clare, thereby setting the stage for one of the most iconic collaborations of the Swinging Sixties. The narrative of 'We'll Take Manhattan' is a stirring tale of defiance, innovation, and the birth of an era-defining partnership.
